The Black Panther sequel by Ryan Coogler will finally begin production in July 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Initially, filming was supposed to commence on March 2021, but plans and, presumably, the entire script, had to be changed due to various factors, primarily that of COVID-19, as well as the unfortunate death of star Chadwick Boseman.
After some time to recuperate and regroup, the Black Panther team and Marvel Studios are back with a plan to get the show on the road. THR reports that the July shoots will run for at least 6 months, beginning in Atlanta.
Additionally, new cast members have been added to the sequel, including Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta. Though his role has yet to be revealed, sources say that he will be playing an antagonist to Letitia Wright’s Shuri, who is set to embrace a “more prominent role”, which we imagine to be that of the next Black Panther.
Joining Wright and Huerta as returning cast are Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, and Winston Duke as M’Baku.
2021 is looking to be a very busy year for Marvel Studios as it gears up for Phase 4. Aside from a whole host of feature films such as Black Widow and Shang-Chi, and Disney+ TV shows including WandaVision to be released in that year, production for other upcoming films such as Black Panther 2 is also gearing up.
